Culture of Substantia Nigra Neurons

چکیده
Primary cultures of nigral tissue are widely used as a model system to assay effects of trophic and toxic agents on dopaminergic neurons. Cultured dopaminergic neurons have been successfully transplanted in animals and led to behavioral improvement in animal models of Parkinson’s disease. The success of these preclinical studies has encouraged investigators to begin clinical trials using transplanted dopaminergic neurons in patients with Parkinson’s disease. Cell cultures have also been used to study the development of substantia nigra, allowing investigators to identify early inductive events important for nigral development and to study dopaminergic differentiation and target innervation.

The effects of aqueous cinnamon bark extract and cinnamaldehyde on neurons of substantia nigra and behavioral impairment in a mouse model of Parkinson’s disease
Background and Objective: Parkinson's disease (PD) is characterized by a progressive loss of dopaminergic neurons in substantia nigra. In recent years, there have been interests in the role of the free radical damage in PD. Cinnamon and its derivative, cinnamaldehyde acts as powerful antioxidant and anti-inflammatory agents. This research focused on the effects of cinnamon extract and cinnamald...
متن کاملAntioxidant Role of Oleuropein on Midbrain and Dopaminergic Neurons of Substantia Nigra in Aged Rats
Background: Oleuropein is a phenolic compound which is present in the olive leaf extract. The purpose of the present study was to investigate the neuroprotective effect of oleuropein as an antioxidant agent on the substantia nigra in aged rats. Methods: Twenty 18-month-old Wistar rats (450-550 g) were randomly divided into control and experimental groups. The experimental group received a daily...
متن کاملThe effect of titanium dioxide nanoparticles on mice midbrain substantia nigra
Objective(s): Widely used Titanium dioxide nanoparticles (TiO2) enter into the body and cause various organ damages. Therefore, we aimed to study the effect of TiO2 on the substantia nigra of midbrain. Materials and Methods: 40 male BALB/c mice were randomly divided into five groups: three groups received TiO2 at doses of 10, 25, and 50 ...
متن کاملاثر حفاظتی اپیگالوکاتکین گالات در مدل بیماری پارکینسون القاشده با 6-هیدروکسی دوپامین
Background and Objective: Parkinson's disease is a common movement disorder in elders caused by depletion of dopaminergic neurons in the substantia nigra in midbrain. Due to antioxidant and neuroprotective properties of epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG), the present study investigated its neuroprotective effect in an experimental model of Parkinson's disease. Materials and Methods: In this exp...
متن کاملCinnamaldehyde attenuates dopaminergic neuronal loss in substantia nigra and induces midbrain catalase activity in a mouse model of Parkinson’s disease
Background and Objective: Parkinson's disease (PD) is the second most common neurodegenerative disease after Alzheimer's disease that affects 3% of the population. PD involves a progressive degeneration of dopaminergic neurons in the substantia nigra pars compacta (SNc) and subsequent loss of dopamine. Dopamine depletion leads to movement dysfunction and is accompanied with tremor, rigid muscle...
